Recently it was announced that sanctions would be amended and IU coach Tom Crean would be granted a 10-day trip to meet and recruit players across the country. Apparently it was cleared of any compliance issues, but it’s still unknown what kind of effect it might have on the NCAA hearings this summer.
Some view it as a huge opportunity for the IU basketball program to make up some ground on the recruiting scene, while others view it as an unnecessary risk in the face of additional sanctions. Regardless, it appears that Crean is going to make the best of it.
The following is a reported itinery for Crean’s trip, posted by GLK81 on … [Read More]
The recruiting chase for 6’8”, 220-lb power forward Jordan Prosser is heating up, and it sounds like Indiana and head coach Tom Crean have some work to do if they want to land a commitment from the talented junior. IUplanet caught up with him tonight for an interview about his college basketball future.
Prosser, who plays for Eureka High School (Ill.) and the Indiana Elite One AAU team, has been attracting the attention of scouts ever since he received a scholarship offer from Bradley during his freshman year. This year he averaged 20 points and 12 rebounds in a starring role for Eureka. Initially standout cornerback Tracy Porter’s potential was somewhat overshadowed by the NFL future of wideout James Hardy, who was a touchdown machine for the Hoosiers this year. Yesterday, however, the relatively under-the-radar Porter was drafted by the New Orleans Saints while Hardy (and a slew of other receivers) was still on the board. Now the cornerback has a big chance to make people remember that more than one great player from IU has a chance to become a star in the NFL.
Although Hardy is going into an excellent situation in Buffalo, adding size and a red-zone threat to a vertically-challenged but extremely skilled receiving corps,… [Read More]
The NFL Draft didn’t exactly go as planned for most of the experts’ top-rated wide receivers, including Indiana’s James Hardy, who was projected as a late first round pick. Star cornerback Tracy Porter was the first Hoosier taken in the draft, picked up by the New Orleans Saints with the ninth pick in the second round, 40th overall. Hardy was still not far behind, however, getting drafted by the Buffalo Bills only one pick after Porter.
Porter was the seventh cornerback taken in a draft… [Read More]
The NFL Draft takes place later today. For many Hoosiers, one of the most anticipated picks will be that of James Hardy, who led the Big Ten in receiving yards during the 2007 season.
There are plenty of whispers circulating throughout the online mock draft crowd that have Hardy going in the first round. Of course, it’s all hearsay, but no one’s more qualified on the subject than IU’s wide receiver coach Billy Lynch. We spoke to Lynch to get his thoughts on the draft:
Have you spoken to Hardy lately? What were his thoughts about the draft today?
Billy Lynch: “You know, he’s definitely excited and obviously very eager. He just wants to find out where he’s going, and he’s ready to get to work. He’s been… [Read More]
NFL draft prospect and former IU standout James Hardy poses a dilemma for many NFL teams, because he has the physical tools and upside to be a star, but also has some deficiencies that may prevent him from reaching that level. Future success for wide receivers is notoriously hard to gauge, and NFL teams are well aware of the potential risks and benefits of taking one high in the draft.
Hardy, who is projected as a mid-first round to early second-round pick, has an even more distinct allure thanks to his above-average height. Will Hardy live up to the hype or are teams falling prey to what Philadelphia Eagles blogger calls … [Read More]
